About Dyslexia Queensland and You

Dyslexia Queensland provides two services, individually or together: screening and effective intervention for dyslexic people. We have assessors ready to carry out the screening process for dyslexia. We can travel to you provided there are sufficient bookings for assessment coming from the same area.

We also have a licensed Davis Facilitator to carry out the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program – a 5-day intervention program, providing also the materials to take home for follow-up work, and support training for the parent to understand the student’s learning style and to be able to support the child once back home. This program is also suitable for adults wishing to make positive changes to their lives.

Contact us to make a booking for screening and the intervention program. To find out more information about this program, go to our Intervention Program page.

Screening for Dyslexia

Parents usually do their homework thoroughly when searching for answers to why their child struggles with his/her literacy development. Dyslexia Queensland can provide a screening service as well. The purpose of the screening is to identify whether the student has the dyslexic learning style; to provide recommendations for the school to ensure that appropriate classroom provisions and exam accommodations are made to suit this learning style; and to provide the student’s parents with the option of providing him/her with the opportunity for effective intervention if appropriate.

The Screening Process

Screening for dyslexia takes about two hours during which time parents complete some paperwork, providing background information about the student. Meanwhile, the student is taken through the screening process. This is not an onerous task as there are lots of short activities to do.

After screening

A report is prepared with recommendations for support which you will receive by post within two weeks. The report can be shared with your child’s teachers to ensure their accountability in providing appropriate support as needed. You can then book your child in with our Licensed Davis Facilitator for the effective Davis Dyslexia Correction Program if needed at a mutually convenient time.

About our assessors

Our assessors have had extensive experience in a range of educational settings from early childhood to primary school and through to secondary school. The students they have worked with have come from diverse backgrounds, and included those with different learning styles. They are currently registered teachers.
